Today, ON Semiconductor officially unveiled its China strategy, making it clear that it will deepen its presence in China in a more focused manner. By empowering regional leadership, expanding manufacturing partnerships, and deepening local collaboration, ON Semiconductor will further assist customers in accelerating their global business expansion. As an important component of this strategy, ON Semiconductor has officially established Shanghai as its Greater China headquarters and plans to appoint a general manager for China, in order to continuously enhance local leadership and decision-making efficiency, and further deepen close cooperation with stakeholders.
"China is one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing technology markets globally," said Hassane El-Khoury, President and CEO of ON Semiconductor. "Our customers not only need components, but also hope to find partners who can innovate alongside them and share the same execution capabilities. Our China strategy is precisely to collaborate with customers in China to create solutions and scale them up for the global market."
Designating Shanghai as the headquarters for ON Semiconductor's Greater China region signifies the establishment of a core hub for regional collaboration, accelerated decision-making, and deepened ecosystem cooperation. ON Semiconductor will also appoint a General Manager for China, who will concurrently serve as the head of Systems Engineering in China, to comprehensively lead the company's business in China into a new stage of development. This dual role will deeply integrate technical insights with management decision-making capabilities, accelerating system-level innovation while strengthening ON Semiconductor's high-level collaboration and representation in the government and industrial ecosystems, which is crucial for the smooth execution of China's strategy. On this basis, ON Semiconductor is advancing the implementation of its strategy through four core pillars:
Designed in China
ON Semiconductor is continuously expanding its research and development (R&D) and systems engineering capabilities in Shanghai, collaborating with Chinese customers to define products and accelerate innovation iteration. The systems engineering team led by the general manager of the China region will work closely with customers and ecosystem partners to deliver optimized system-level solutions for complex applications such as automotive, industrial, and artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Currently, the company has established 8 application joint laboratories and plans to add 3 more, focusing on promoting the development and efficient implementation of localized solutions for AI power applications.
Made in China
ON Semiconductor is strengthening its front-end and back-end integrated manufacturing system and building a tight "engineering-manufacturing" feedback loop by integrating its own manufacturing capabilities with local Chinese partner resources. This measure has significantly improved speed, efficiency, and scalability. This includes the recently announced collaboration with Innoscience to accelerate the global commercialization process of its gallium nitride (GaN) product portfolio.
Deep cultivation in China
Through close collaboration with customers and partners, ON Semiconductor has continuously integrated into China's innovation ecosystem, establishing a development model characterized by local synergy and ecosystem co-construction, demonstrating the company's firm commitment to local procurement and long-term value creation in the industrial ecosystem.
Going Global
Relying on its global manufacturing footprint, ON Semiconductor is assisting customers in bringing technology platforms validated in the Chinese market to the global stage, achieving a leap from "success in China" to "global scale".
"By deeply embedding ourselves in the Chinese ecosystem, we are combining our industry-leading technology with 'China speed' to accelerate the global deployment of innovative concepts," El-Khoury added. "This strategy will further enhance our ability to drive technological breakthroughs in this key global market and strengthen ON Semiconductor's strategic advantage in the field of system-level differentiated solutions, thereby driving sustainable growth."
