The CEO of a semiconductor chip industry giant announced on Monday, along with Donald Trump, that the Taiwanese company will invest $100 billion in the United States for production.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) CEO Wei Zhejia announced this investment at the White House along with the President, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and Trump's AI and crypto advisor David Sacks. He stated that the new investment brings TSMC's total investment in the US chip manufacturing sector to 165 billion US dollars.

We are producing the most advanced chips domestically in the United States, "Wei said. Now this vision has become a reality

Trump called the Wei family a "legend" and stated that this investment will create thousands of job opportunities. Trump claimed that introducing semiconductor manufacturing into the United States is related to national security and will enable the United States to occupy a huge share of the global market.

Last April, Wei Zhejia agreed to increase TSMC's planned expenditures in the United States by $25 billion to $65 billion, and to add two more factories at its Arizona facility by 2030.

TSMC is the world's largest foundry chip manufacturer. It first established a factory in Arizona in 2020 and began production at the end of last year. At present, most of the semiconductor manufacturing industry's business is concentrated in Asia, and TSMC's further expansion in the United States will bring more investment to the semiconductor manufacturing industry.

TSMC's chips are used in almost every field of technology, from smartphones and car consoles to servers used to drive artificial intelligence.

Lutnik told lawmakers last month that the plan was an "excellent down payment" for rebuilding the department, but he refused to commit to providing the approved appropriations for the department and said he hoped to "read, analyze, and understand these appropriations.

On Monday, Lutnik repeatedly thanked Trump for bringing more chip production to the United States. Now you see the power of Donald Trump's presidency, "he said.

Under the leadership of then President Joe Biden, the US Department of Commerce allocated $6.6 billion in government subsidies to TSMC's US factory in Arizona in November for the production of semiconductors.

Biden signed the Chip and Science Act legislation in 2022, providing $52.7 billion in subsidies for US semiconductor production and research to promote domestic production and reduce US dependence on Asian made semiconductors.

A spokesperson for TSMC stated last month that the company had received $1.5 billion in funding under the Chip Act prior to the new government taking office, in accordance with milestone terms of the agreement.

TSMC agreed last year to produce the world's most advanced 2-nanometer technology at its second factory in Arizona, which is expected to begin production in 2028. TSMC also agreed to use its most advanced chip manufacturing technology "A16" in Arizona. TSMC's contract includes up to $5 billion in low-cost government loans.

During his presidential campaign, Trump criticized the Chip Act and stated that tariffs would be a better way to bring foreign manufacturing into the United States.

Trump stated on Monday that due to TSMC building factories in the United States, the company is not obligated to pay the tariffs promised by the president. He added that tariffs on Canada and Mexico will begin on April 2nd, and if companies from these countries do not want to pay the tariffs, they should build factories in the United States.

Mr. Wei Zhe did it this way, "Trump said. He is far ahead

TSMC announced today that it plans to increase its investment in advanced semiconductor manufacturing in the United States by an additional $100 billion. On the basis of the company's current $65 billion investment in advanced semiconductor manufacturing business in Phoenix, Arizona, TSMC's total investment in the United States is expected to reach $165 billion. This expansion includes plans to build three new manufacturing plants, two advanced packaging facilities, and a large research and development team center, making the project the largest single foreign direct investment in US history.

Through this expansion, TSMC is expected to create hundreds of billions of dollars in semiconductor value for artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge applications. TSMC's expanded investment is expected to support 40000 construction jobs over the next four years and create tens of thousands of high paying, high-tech jobs in advanced chip manufacturing and research and development. It is expected to bring over $200 billion in indirect economic output to Arizona and the United States in the next decade. This move highlights TSMC's commitment to supporting its customers, including Apple NVIDIA\AMD\ Leading American artificial intelligence and technology innovation companies such as Broadcom and Qualcomm.

Dr. David Wei, Chairman and CEO of TSMC, said, "As early as 2020, thanks to President Trump's vision and support, we embarked on a journey to establish advanced chip manufacturing in the United States. Now, this vision has become a reality. Artificial intelligence is reshaping our daily lives, and semiconductor technology is the foundation for new features and applications. With the success of our first factory in Arizona, as well as the necessary government support and strong customer partnerships, we plan to increase our investment in US semiconductor manufacturing by another $100 billion, bringing our total planned investment to $165 billion

TSMC's Arizona factory currently covers an area of 1100 acres in Arizona and has over 3000 employees. The factory will start mass production from the end of 2024. This expansion will play a key role in strengthening the US semiconductor ecosystem by increasing the production of advanced semiconductor technologies. As TSMC's first advanced packaging investment in the United States, it will also improve the domestic artificial intelligence supply chain.

In the United States, in addition to its latest manufacturing plant in Phoenix, TSMC also has a wafer fab in Camas, Washington, and design service centers in Austin, Texas and San Jose, California.
